Aromatherapy: What is It?

January 03, 20241 min read

“Aromatherapy is a caring, hands-on therapy which seeks to induce relaxation, to increase energy, to reduce the effects of stress and to restore lost balance to mind, body and soul."

AROMATHERAPY: WHAT IS IT AND HOW CAN IT HELP?

Aromatherapy is the use of concentrated oils from plant leaves, flowers, stems, roots, or barks. These are called “essential oils”. Often times, essential oils are just for smell to induce a feeling such as relaxation, energy, or balance. However, at Grounded Tree Massage Therapy, we use therapeutic-grade essential oils, meaning they can be applied topically, when used with a carrier oil (such as argan or coconut oil).

Aromatherapy

Since essential oils are concentrated, small amounts of the oil can have tremendous benefit. 1 to 2 drops are enough to create the desired effect. Our most commonplace essential oils are:

1. Lavender (Used to promote relaxation)

2. Peppermint (Used to create a cooling or stimulating effect)

3. Eucalyptus (Used to clear respiratory issues and ease sore muscles/joints)

4. Clove (Used as an antimicrobial agent and ease digestive issues)

5. Thieves (“Blend” of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary; has many restorative benefits; antimicrobial; promotes balance)

Essential oil blends can be curated to your specific needs. Whether you’re dealing with allergies, holding tension, or feeling pain within the body, an essential oil blend can be administered. During your next massage therapy session, ask your massage therapist about aromatherapy to see if it’s right for you!
